about
Following his debut EP "A Mood of Its Own", Toby Whyle returns with a new single entitled "Not in the Slightest".
At first glance, the song revolves around the recklessness of a past moment that one longs for amid turbulent times. However, it is not so much about getting lost in nostalgia or trying to sugar-coat memories. It is a reminder to regain the courage to try something new and embrace moments without being instantly intimidated by what-ifs.
The song describes the feeling of being enthusiastic and passionate about something, even if emotions and reasoning are bound to collide. This particular tension is reflected by an interplay of melancholic piano chords and dreamy guitar melodies—similar to the soundtrack to a hopeful movie scene, gradually merging two originally opposing sides.
As we keep learning and become more experienced, we naturally try to avoid repeating certain mistakes. But there are indeed moments in which it is worth letting go of patterns that have emerged for comfort's sake. At the same time, we attempt not to be discouraged by the ever-present perfectionism that tends to dampen our enthusiasm whenever we encounter the slightest road bumps. It's easier said than done—still, not getting started through fear of mistakes and setbacks is certainly not the solution.
"Not In The Slightest" is the first single from Toby Whyle's debut album, set for release in 2022.
lyrics
Endless evenings
Ceaseless fires
Insane ideas
Clinging to high hopes
And every song
Our little riot
Untamed excitement
Never quiet
When nothing could scare us
In the slightest way
Nothing could trouble us
In the slightest way
Nothing could tear us apart
Not in the slightest
Not in the slightest way
Not in the slightest
Not in the slightest way
Every notion
So inspired
Like rolling wheels
That never tire out
When nothing could scare us
In the slightest way
Nothing could trouble us
In the slightest way
Nothing could tear us apart
Not in the slightest
Not in the slightest way
Not in the slightest
Not in the slightest way
Not in the slightest way
When nothing could scare us
In the slightest way
Nothing could trouble us
In the slightest way
Nothing could tear us apart
Not in the slightest
Not in the slightest way
Not in the slightest
Not in the slightest
Nothing could scare us
Not in the slightest
Nothing could trouble us
Not in the slightest
Not in the slightest way
Oh, not in the slightest
Not in the slightest way
Oh, not in the slightest way
